Join Baker Bettie for a weekend of learning and baking sourdough!

Join trained chef and baking instructor Kristin “Baker Bettie” Hoffman for a weekend of sourdough bread baking at her brand new brick-and-mortar baking school, Bettie's Chicago.

During this weekend you will receive 10+ hrs of hands-on baking instruction that will cover a wide variety of skills and techniques.

On Saturday we will meet from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM; on Sunday we will meet from 9:00 AM- 12:30 PM

You Will Learn

What a sourdough starter is

How to maintain your starter in a variety of ways depending on how you want to use it

How to make a sourdough loaf from start to finish

Starter troubleshooting

How to make sourdough pizza

How to make sourdough cinnamon rolls

How to make sourdough crackers

How to change the master recipe into a wide variety of variations

How to add mix-ins to your dough

How to properly shape your dough

How to score and bake your loaf

What’s Included?

10+ hours of detailed instruction from our chef instructor

A workbook filled with notes and information to reference when you get home

A jar of sourdough starter of your own

An apron, banneton proofing basket, bench knife, bowl scraper, bread lame, and flour duster

Breakfast and lunch on Saturday, Breakfast on Sunday + snacks and refreshments

Who Can Attend?

This workshop is appropriate for anyone who is 18+.

You do not need any prior sourdough experience or knowledge. All skill levels are welcome.

SCHEDULE:

SATURDAY, October 22nd:

9:00 AM- Help yourself to breakfast of a sourdough toast bar with lots of toppings

9:30 AM – 12:30 PM Session #1- sourdough 101, receive starters, feed starters, everyone makes their own dough, do stretch & folds

12:30 PM-1:30 PM Lunch- Make your own sourdough pizza

1:30 PM – 5:00 PM Session #2- Sourdough science & theory, shape loaves, make sourdough cinnamon rolls for breakfast tomorrow

SUNDAY, Oct 23rd

9:00 AM- Help yourself to sourdough cinnamon rolls for breakfast

9:30 – 12:30 PM Session #3- Score & bake loaves, sourdough crackers, how to use the master recipe in different ways, how to make your dough fit into your schedule
