A Fascinating Look at the History of St. Ann’s & Kennebunk Point
Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary with a special history presentation about one of Maine’s most iconic coastal landmarks.
Join us this summer at St. Ann’s in Kennebunkport for a fascinating look at the history of St. Ann's Church and grounds. Kennebunkport Historical Society’s Historian Sharon Cummins will present “A History of St. Ann’s and Kennebunk Point,” an engaging talk that brings the site’s rich past to life. This event will be presented twice (same content) on July 9 and August 13.
Through rare historical photographs and vivid storytelling, this presentation traces the evolution of St. Ann’s — from its origins as an 1812 fort to the construction of the beloved oceanfront stone church and its expansion through modern times. You’ll explore the stories behind its stained glass windows, the remarkable rectory once owned by notable locals such as Atwater Kent, and the prominent founders and members—including two U.S. Presidents—who shaped its legacy.
Proceeds from this event support St. Ann’s “Preserving a Legacy” Capital Campaign, helping to restore historic buildings, protect against future coastal weather impacts, and ensure this treasured site endures for generations to come.
