A Little Star's Big Adventure
Follow a stellar adventure with The Little Star That Could and The Late Summer Triangle
Join us at the Blake Planetarium for a heartwarming journey through the universe and the late summer night sky. Designed especially for young children and families, this program introduces fundamental astronomy concepts through storytelling, imagination, and exploration.
Our feature presentation, The Little Star That Could, follows the adventures of Little Star, an average yellow star searching for planets of his very own to protect and warm. Along his journey, Little Star meets a variety of stars and discovers that each one is unique. As he travels through space, he learns how stars form groups called star clusters and how these clusters are part of vast galaxies. Eventually, Little Star is introduced to our own Solar System, helping young audiences understand where Earth fits into the larger universe.
Filled with colorful visuals and engaging storytelling, this charming program provides an age-appropriate introduction to stars, galaxies, and our place in space while encouraging curiosity and wonder about the night sky.
Following the feature, guests will explore the late summer night sky and learn how to find one of the season's most recognizable celestial landmarks: the Summer Triangle. Formed by three bright stars, Vega, Deneb, and Altair, the Summer Triangle is easy to spot and serves as a guide to many other constellations visible during late summer evenings. Participants will also learn how to use a simple partial-sky star map, giving families the tools to continue their stargazing adventures at home.
This program is an excellent introduction to astronomy for young children, families, scout groups, and first-time planetarium visitors.
