From island architecture and urban skylines to national parks shaped by time, America tells its story through places as bold and varied as the people who built them. How do these diverse natural and manmade environments come together to shape a uniquely American identity? It’s time to embark on a sweeping journey uncovering the architecture, culture, and character that define the United States across its most remarkable landscapes.

Join New York Adventure Club as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday with an epic 10-part series exploring a curated selection of stories, influences, and environments that have shaped the nation’s most iconic places. In Part Nine: Portland, we’ll explore a city where natural beauty, seasonal change, and a deep connection to the outdoors shape both its architecture and cultural identity.

Led by tour guide Kelsey Betzelberger, this experience — featuring plenty of firsthand photo and video walkthroughs, intriguing anecdotes, and expert insights — will include:

  • Downtown Portland and seasonal beauty — experience the city’s urban core in autumn, where colorful foliage frames tree-lined streets, historic buildings, and public spaces like Pioneer Courthouse Square
  • Bridges and the Willamette River — walk across Portland’s iconic bridges, where engineering and design connect neighborhoods while offering views of the city skyline and surrounding nature
  • Pittock Mansion and hillside views — visit this historic estate overlooking Portland, where early 20th-century architecture meets panoramic views of Mount Hood and the surrounding landscape
  • Markets and local flavors — explore the Saturday Market, sampling regional specialties like berries and hazelnuts alongside local favorites like Moonstruck Chocolates and Voodoo Doughnuts
  • Natural wonders beyond the city — discover nearby highlights like Multnomah Falls, the Portland Rose Garden, Cannon Beach, and Haystack Rock, showcasing the region’s dramatic scenery

Afterward, we'll have a Q&A with Kelsey — any and all questions are welcomed and encouraged!
