We will be exploring the flora of Winchester's wetland preserve!
"The 25-acre Abrams Creek Wetlands Preserve in Winchester, VA is a calcareous muck fen and is home to over 300 plant species and 180 kinds of birds. At least nine of the Preserve’s plant species appear on Virginia’s Rare Plants List, including three species found nowhere else in the Commonwealth. In addition, no other limestone-floored wetland in Virginia has as many rare plants as Winchester’s wetlands."
We will be walking about 1.5 miles on level, paved or boardwalked trails in the heart of Winchester but never fret! The 25 acre site is said to boast a host of rare and unusual plant species. As per usual bring a hat and sunscreen, water bottle, and comfortable shoes.
