See up close the rock formations that inspired James Hutton to re-think the formation of the Earth and kickstart the science of geology!
Event: Access to Hutton's Section and Hutton's Rock.
Duration: 1 hour - Please arrive on the hour stated. Late arrivals may not be granted access.
Meeting Place: Gates to Radical Road/Hutton's Section. Please see map below.
Description: Come and see up close the famous rock formations that inspired pioneering geologist, James Hutton, to celebrate the tricentary of his birth. Rangers will be on hand to provide access and information about how these rock formations inspired Hutton to re-think the age of the world and the processes that shape it.
Age: May not be suitable for children under 8 years.
Grade: Easy
Route: Hutton's Section, Radical Road, Hutton's Rock.
Bring: Warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear with good grips. A snack and a drink.
Toilets: Toilets are available at the Holyrood Park Education Centre (EH8 8HG). No toilets on the walk itself.
Parking: Broad Pavement Car Park (off Queen's Drive, next to Holyrood Palace). Parking charges are £1 per hour. Charges apply 08:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday (except Public Holidays). Parking is free for Blue Badge holders. 55°57'03.9"N 3°10'09.8"W - Google Maps
Road Closures: Holyrood Park roads are closed every Saturday and Sunday.
