PalmerWith the threat of park closings and budget cuts by the city, the People for Palmer Park (PFPP) arose from members of the community who love Palmer Park for the gem it was, is, and can be.PFPP is dedicated to the revitalization of Palmer Park and creating a safe, accessible and equitable place for everyone of all ages to enjoy nature, recreation and healthy opportunities. PFPP is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and the official "Adopt-a-Park" Partner with the CIty of Detroit.PFPP believes that with the collective energy, efforts, and talents of the people who use and love the park, it can be revitalized to its fullest potential and restored to what Senator Palmer envisioned when he donated the land for the park in the late 1800s: “a park for the good of everyone.” Palmer Park is comprised of 296 acres of lawns and historic woodlands, new tennis courts, splash park, hiking and biking trails, Lake Frances, a historic log cabin, a community garden, playgrounds, and more.PFPP is a membership organization and new members and volunteers are necessary and welcome. Core members of the PFPP include residents and representatives from diverse neighborhoods and community organizations.PFPP is committed to the preservation, recreation, and revitalization of Palmer Park, for the good of all. Our vision is to create an urban oasis, regional destination, and daily recreation site that will promote an active and healthy community. <h3>Music, art-making, storytelling, weaving, healing, food, film animation and a myriad of creative programs has filled the Palmer Park Log Cabin and its grounds this summer and fall! Join us for our final class on Animation (limited availability, so please pre-register quickly!).</h3><h3><strong>SUNDAY OCTOBER 1 • 2-6 pm</strong></h3><p><strong>2-4 pm: Brilliant Detroit&#x27;s Storytime:</strong> A Magical Reading Journey &amp; Free Book Giveaway in the Cabin</p><p><strong>2-6 pm: Made in Palmer Park Art Opening</strong>, an Exhibit of art created by adults &amp; youth in Palmer Park</p><p><strong>4-6 pm: The final Earth Tones concerts </strong>of the season features the Michael Malis Trio (pianist/composer Michael Malis, bassist Jaribu Shahid and drummer David Alvarez III). and Dennard-Deas-Daher Trio (trumpeter Allen Dennard, bassist Josef Deas and drummer Matthew Daher). Food for purchase from the Pink FlaminGo to Go! Enjoy autumn in Palmer Park this warm and sunny Sunday.</p><h3><strong>SATURDAY &amp; SUNDAY OCT 14 &amp; 15 • 1-5 pm</strong></h3><p>Animation workshop to create &quot;Tom&#x27;s Ghost&quot; with filmmaker Gary Schwartz <strong><em>(participants limited to 15, pre-register here to reserve your spot; attendence for both sessions is advised; others are invited to observe).</em></strong></p><p>Gary Schwartz is a well-known artists, educator and filmmaker who has taught at University of Michigan, College for Creative Studies and internationally.</p><p>Palmer Park Animation Workshops will create &quot;TOM&#x27;S GHOST: Equal right for all, special privileges to none.&quot;</p><p>We will produce a hands-on 20 second animated film about Palmer Park and Sen Thomas Palmer. Learn about:</p><p>SHADOW PROJECTION: Magic Lantern Shadow Puppets</p><p>LIP SYNC: Synchronized Voice &amp;  Dialogue Replacement</p><p>SYNCHRONIZED CHOREOGRAPHY: Sound &amp; Picture Dance</p><p>PAPER CUT-OUT COLLAGE: Alchemy of Performance</p><p>There will be supplies for about 15 people, but some space for observers. Attendees are encouraged to participate on both days. Best for teens, adults and serious, mature older children. </p><h2>PAST EVENTS &amp; CLASSES</h2><h3><strong>SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 • 2-4 pm</strong></h3><p><strong>Painting &amp; drawing with inks created with foraged plants &amp; berries with artist Kim Fracassa. </strong> <strong><em>(participants limited to 15, pre-register here to reserve your spot;  others are invited to observe)</em></strong></p><ol><li>Learn the basics of natural ink making</li><li>Experiment making the ink from seasonal plants foraged in Palmer Park. Kim will  bring branches/fruit found in the park rather than encourage foraging during the class as it’s a hike to do so.</li><li>Pen your own calligraphy/poetry or paint a work of art on paper.</li></ol><p><strong>Brilliant Detroit&#x27;s Storytime:</strong> A Magical Reading Journey &amp; Free Book Giveaway in the Cabin for children with their parents or guardians (drop-in; no registration required)</p><h3><strong>SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 • 2-5 pm</strong></h3><p><strong>2-5 pm Eco-dyeing &amp; printing with foraged plants on fabrics with artist Mandisa Smith</strong>. Learn the ancient art of eco-printing! In this 3-hour workshop, you will create a one-of-kind eco-printed 11x11 inch silk scarf using plant material like eucalyptus leaves, onion skins, flower petals and more. All materials are supplied. <strong><em>(participants limited to 15, pre-register here to reserve your spot;  others are invited to observe)</em></strong></p><p><strong>2-4 pm: Brilliant Detroit&#x27;s Storytime:</strong> A Magical Reading Journey &amp; Free Book Giveaway in the Cabin</p><h3><strong></strong></h3>
