Art in the Gardens Tour

Art in the Gardens Tour

Nevin Welcome CenterIthaca, NY
Overview

Tour Cornell Botanic Gardens to learn how art is used to further connect us with plants and place.

Gardens are artful, meaning they are skillfully planned. Even a cottage garden, that may look haphazard, has been carefully designed with thought about color, texture, foliage types, and more. At Cornell Botanic Gardens, sculptures and murals are used to expand educational impact, foster a sense of interconnectedness between people, plants, and place, and enhance enjoyment for our visitors.

Among a variety of art pieces, the work of blacksmith artist Durand Van Doren, who has been creating fine, handmade ironwork for over 25 years, will be featured. Learn how Durand's creations connect us with plants in the herb, flower, and winter gardens. At the conclusion of the tour, you are invited to drive to the Arboretum gates, to learn more about and discuss this important art piece. Event will be held rain or shine. Tours are offered rain or shine but may be cancelled in the event of severe or hazardous weather. Please come prepared for the weather. Pre-registration is required, as space is limited.
