Avalon Housing Volunteer Orientation

Avalon Housing Volunteer Orientation

Overview

This orientation is required for all new Avalon volunteers participating in our food pantry, front desk, service day, and art programs.

This orientation is required for all new Avalon volunteers participating in our food pantry, front desk, service day, tutoring, or art programs. We're looking for volunteers who can commit to a minimum of 6 months.

During this time, we’ll:

  • Give a brief introduction to Avalon, including our mission, the state of homelessness in Washtenaw County, the services we provide to clients, and how volunteers participate in different Avalon programs to support.
  • Present our Food Pantry program training (if you're volunteering in our Food Pantry program), which includes the volunteer role and expectations, a civil rights training portion, and a food safety training portion.
  • Review our volunteer agreements and any other requirements needed to complete our onboarding process.

If you’re interested in volunteering with us but haven’t yet applied or completed your pre-orientation requirements, or have any other questions, please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator, Aleah Pisarz, at apisarz@avalonhousing.org. If you’re unable to attend this orientation date, additional orientation dates are available. If you're not able to attend any listed orientation date, please reach out to Aleah.

About Avalon

At Avalon, housing is a basic human right. We envision a community in which all of our neighbors have a home, and an opportunity to thrive. We build supportive housing communities as a long-term solution to homelessness. Supportive housing is a combination of affordable housing (that we build) paired with services, like case management. We don’t just help people find housing. Our property managers and support coordinators help people stay in their homes. Avalon owns and operates apartments in Washtenaw County, manages rent vouchers with private landlords, and partners with the Ann Arbor Housing Commission to provide housing alternatives for formerly homeless adults and families throughout Washtenaw County.
