Avalon Housing Volunteer Orientation

Avalon Housing Volunteer Orientation

Overview

This orientation is required for all new Avalon volunteers participating in our food pantry, front desk, service day, and art programs.

This orientation is required for all new Avalon volunteers participating in our food pantry, front desk, service day, or art programs. We're looking for volunteers who can commit to a minimum of 6 months.

During this time, we’ll:

  • Introduce ourselves
  • Present our new volunteer slideshow and info
  • Present our Food Pantry training (if you're volunteering in our Food Pantry program)
  • Review our volunteer agreements and any other requirements needed to complete our onboarding process

Please make sure you’ve completed your pre-orientation requirements before attending this in-person orientation. If you’re interested in volunteering with us but haven’t yet applied or completed your pre-orientation requirements, or have any other questions, please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator, Aleah Pisarz, at apisarz@avalonhousing.org.

If you’re unable to attend this orientation date, additional orientation dates are available.

Orientation will take place at our office at 1327 Jones Dr - our parking lot has limited free parking and is on the northeast side of the building. The building is a white brick building with a tall red pillar on top. The front entrance is a double door labeled "Northern Brewery" with white lettering and leads into the lobby. After you enter, our office is through the lobby to the right, with signage that says Avalon Housing. You can let the staff or volunteer at our front desk know you are here for a volunteer orientation and they'll direct you from there.

About Avalon

At Avalon, housing is a basic human right. We envision a community in which all of our neighbors have a home, and an opportunity to thrive. We build supportive housing communities as a long-term solution to homelessness. Supportive housing is a combination of affordable housing (that we build) paired with services, like case management. We don’t just help people find housing. Our property managers and support coordinators help people stay in their homes. Avalon owns and operates apartments in Washtenaw County, manages rent vouchers with private landlords, and partners with the Ann Arbor Housing Commission to provide housing alternatives for formerly homeless adults and families throughout Washtenaw County.
