Overview

Celebrate Pride outside while helping restore grassland habitat. Join us for a sunny, weedy, weekday evening workday!

Celebrate Pride Outside! This 3-hour weekday community workday is focused on reducing invasive yellow starthistle populations in the preserve. Join our weeding party to keep the weeds at bay and make room for native plants to thrive!

Restoration activities may include digging with tools, carrying, bending. Participants can expect to hike through an exposed and hilly terrain for up to 2 miles to reach weeding area.

This event centers members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Pearson-Arastradero Preserve has expansive oak woodlands and grasslands with beautiful trees and wildflowers. It is home to an abundance of wildlife, including deer, bobcats, coyotes, and many species of birds and insects. The work you do will support the health of the preserve's ecosystems!

Visit Grassroots Ecology’s Pearson-Arastradero Preserve webpage to learn more about the ecosystem and accessibility considerations.

Waivers/Registration: All volunteers attending the workday must be registered individually and have approved the online waiver through this Eventbrite page. Youth under 18 must have their legal guardian approve the waiver on their behalf. Volunteers age 12 and under require an accompanying adult.

Meeting Space: We will meet by the buildings down the path past the kiosk in the parking lot. Water fountains and all gender, single user restrooms will be accessible at the beginning and at the end of the event.

Prepare for Working Outdoors:

  • Reusable water bottle (filled with water)
  • Snacks, if desired
  • Long pants, long sleeves recommended
  • Sturdy closed-toed shoes that can get dirty
  • Hat/sunscreen or rain jacket/pants/boots
  • Epi-Pen or allergy medicine, if applicable
