We are working hard to bring Chicago its first Insect and Taxidermy Museum! Our focus is connecting to the beauty of nature in a non-traditional sense. During these events we will engage all of our senses to foster both  excitement and growth. At The Insect Asylum we encourage you to explore, as we do! Every time you walk through our doors we are hoping you  engage with the exhibits and develop a true sense of belonging with nature. Our mission is to allow people to get excited, to learn and to grow. We understand that inspiration takes flight in many forms. Come and get inspired, create, and connect with a beautiful community! Also, please keep in mind The Insect Asylum is a self-funded endeavor. This labor of love is ever growing, any and all funds we raise help us bring more to the community! Beginner Moldmaking &amp; Casting Workshop Curious about moldmaking but not sure where to start? This beginner-friendly workshop is the perfect introduction!In this hands-on class, you’ll:<ul><li>Learn key terminology and concepts (like undercuts and different mold types)</li><li>See physical examples of molds and castings for inspiration</li><li>Choose bones to mold</li><li>Build your own mold box with foam board and hot glue</li><li>Create a one-part, open-faced silicone mold using Mold Star 16 Fast</li><li>Cast your object with Smooth Cast 325 resin, with the option to add pigments and glitter for a custom finish</li></ul>While your mold cures, you’ll have the chance to explore sample pieces, ask questions, and get familiar with how moldmaking can be used in art, restoration, and beyond. You’ll also receive a handy terminology sheet to take home, so you can keep exploring on your own.By the end of class, you’ll leave with both a reusable silicone mold and your very own resin casting—perfect for continuing your creative journey!All materials are provided. No prior experience required.
