Bird Walk at Pond SF2

Containing almost 30,000 acres of estuarine habitat, uplands, open water, mudflats, salt ponds, and salt marshes, including much of southern San Francisco Bay, Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge provides habitat for many wildlife.  Its purpose is to protect wildlife habitat for endangered species and migratory birds, and to offer opportunities for nature study. The Visitor Center and Nature Store in Fremont, is open on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM.Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refugeis part of the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Complex and is administered by the US Fish & Wildlife Service. TheSan Francisco Bay Wildlife Societyis a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) Friends group supporting the education, interpretation, and research activities of San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuges.

This will be an interpretive guided tour to learn about resident bird species, migratory birds and the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project. Many migratory waterfowl are travelling through the Bay Area during the winter months along the Pacific Flyway migratory path.This free event is open to all. The walk is a 1.4 mile round trip on an all-weather, accessible trail (one overlook has a 4-inch step). Parking and a bathroom are on-site. A limited number of binoculars are available to borrow. Registration is required for this free event.<ul><li>Use Google Maps to map to the Dumbarton Bridge Vista Point and Trail at 2100 Willow Rd, Menlo Park, CA 94025.
