California Breeding Bird Atlas Workshop

Join us on Saturday, June 20th from 9:30am-12pm for a workshop introducing the California Breeding Bird Atlas project. We will meet outside the visitor center and then there will be a 45 minute information session with Q&A held in the reserve conference room followed by a guided hike focused on breeding bird behavior. The spring birding season at the Reserve has been lively with courtship and fledglings. Young Bewick’s Wrens and recently fledged Black Phoebes have been learning how to be more independent. Tree and Cliff Swallows have been spotted nest building outside the Visitor Center. In an effort to study and protect our state's high diversity of breeding bird species, the nonprofit California Bird Atlas (CBA) recently launched California’s first comprehensive statewide Breeding Bird Atlas (CA BBA), which will combine community science and targeted surveys to collect breeding bird data over a 5-year period. Join us on Saturday, June 20th to learn more about the CA BBA and how to get involved! This workshop will include an introduction to the project, how to participate, and a walk on the Reserve’s trails to practice submitting observations. New eBirder’s are welcome!

We will be meeting outside the reserve visitor center at 1700 Elkhorn Road. The hike portion of the workshop will range between 1 - 1 and a half miles with a 200ft elevation change.
