Join us at FKO Studio & Gallery for a hands-on crafting workshop where we'll use cardboard to reimagine our surrounding landscape!
Join us for a hands-on workshop, led by FKPA staff and AmeriCorps members, where you'll learn to reuse cardboard and reimagine landscapes.
It's estimated that over 30 million tons of corrugated and paperboard material are produced in the U.S. each year, with 17 million tons being landfilled annually. This makes up roughly half of the total paper and cardboard waste generated.
During this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to create cardboard topographic models as well as cardboard shadowboxes. Materials will be provided, but we encourage participants to bring their own supplies.
There is a suggested donation of 20$ per participant.
Acceptable materials includes:
- Cardboard boxes
- Poster board
- Unsoiled pizza boxes
- other corrugated paper materials.

The Freshkills Park Alliance works in partnership with the City of New York to transform the former Fresh Kills Landfill into Freshkills Park, which will be the largest public park built in New York City in more than a century. The nonprofit serves as the park’s primary advocate, championing its completion, and increasing public access and engagement alongside government, civic and community stakeholders. With a focus on sustainability and environmental reclamation, the Alliance continuously works to make the park a destination for all.
