Cleaning Up Mt. Everest: A Reflection on High-Altitude Stewardship

Cleaning Up Mt. Everest: A Reflection on High-Altitude Stewardship

Neptune MountaineeringBoulder, CO
Overview

Join us for an engaging presentation by the leader of a historic effort to clean up the world's tallest peak.

In the spring of 1994, Steven Goryl led the First Environmental Expedition to the top of Mt. Everest, aiming not only for the summit but to leave the mountain better than they found it.

The group included five climbers and five Sherpas, with two team members summiting without supplemental oxygen, becoming the 3rd and 4th Americans to do so. The expedition removed 5000 lbs of trash, including hundreds of oxygen bottles.

Hear a firsthand account of the expedition from Steve, including photos and video from his historic effort. Beer and wine will be available for purchase in the Neptune Cafe.

We’ll round out the evening with a gear giveaway, including photos and Everest summit rocks from Steve’s expedition. All proceeds will be donated to Leave No Trace.
