Learn about and discuss a new bill before the DC Council: The Autonomous Vehicle Deployment Authorization Amendment Act of 2026.

Autonomous vehicles –- for-hire fleets and individually owned vehicles -– will change how we get around in both foreseeable and unpredictable ways. Whatever form the changes take, it is clear that AV uptake will impact traffic safety, congestion, transit, curb space utilization, the environment, and jobs.  The DC Council is considering <a href="https://lims.dccouncil.gov/Legislation/B26-0684" title="https://lims.dccouncil.gov/Legislation/B26-0684" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Bill 26-0684</a>, the Autonomous Vehicle Deployment Authorization Amendment Act of 2026, to address safety, liability, equity, and other concerns, by establishing commercial-operator permitting and operating parameters. Register here for a Transportation Safety Allies online forum on Autonomous Vehicles (AVs), an opportunity to learn about the bill and share your thoughts and concerns. The forum will take place online, Tuesday evening, June 23, 7:30–8:30 pm. The host organizations and invited DC officials will provide AV context, introduce B26-0684, and present our perspectives, and then we’ll switch to listening.
