Dinosaurs Under the Summer Stars

Dinosaurs Under the Summer Stars

Overview

Travel through time and explore the summer sky with Dinosaurs: A Story of Survival and The Heart of the Summer Scorpion

Join us at the Blake Planetarium for a summer adventure that combines prehistoric giants, cosmic impacts, and the wonders of the night sky.

Our feature presentation, Dinosaurs: A Story of Survival, follows Celeste, a young dinosaur enthusiast preparing a class presentation about dinosaur extinction. Her journey takes an unexpected turn when Moon, a wise and magical guide, asks a fascinating question: What if dinosaurs never truly disappeared? Together, Celeste and Moon travel back through millions of years of Earth's history, witnessing the incredible evolution of dinosaurs, from towering giants and armored defenders to fearsome predators. Along the way, they experience the dramatic asteroid impact that triggered a mass extinction event and discover the remarkable story of how some dinosaurs survived and continue to live among us today.

During the second half of the program, guests will explore the early summer night sky and discover the brilliant stars and constellations visible during this season. Special attention will be given to the heart of the Scorpion constellation, one of the most recognizable sights of summer. Participants will also learn how to use a simple partial-sky star map, providing an easy way to identify stars and constellations long after their visit to the planetarium.
