Tiny Fest and Embodiment Project Present Dragon’s Night: Dusk of the Swollen Sun
Tiny Fest and Embodiment Project are joining forces to present Dragon’s Night: Dusk of the Swollen Sun, a one-night immersive performance experience exploring the transformative role of artists during times of social upheaval. Taking place at BANDALOOP Studios in West Oakland, the evening blends street dance theater, live music, poetry, and house music and dance celebration into a powerful call toward collective healing and creation.
At the center of the evening is Dusk of the Swollen Sun, a new 60-minute multidisciplinary work choreographed and directed by Embodiment Project Founder and Artistic Director Nicole Klaymoon. The piece draws inspiration from Saul Williams’ reflection that “artists are the death doulas of a dying empire.” This work asks what responsibility artists carry in moments of cultural collapse, and centers the idea that the opposite of war is not peace, but creation.
The evening features live music, spoken word, immersive visuals, and performances by Embodiment Project and Wishbone dancers, with guest musicians Kevin CK Lo, Byron Wong, Fidel Pomajambo (Fidelius), Rachel Sanders, and more.
Following the performance, stay for a community dance party and concert featuring Oakland emcee Do D.A.T and soulful house DJ BlkSoap.
