Eggers and Elderberries: Connections within the Calumet Region

We unite people to protect, promote, and care for the forest preserves in Cook County. Founded in 1998 by a small group of concerned citizens, Friends is now a force of thousands of committed volunteers and members. Through political advocacy, ecological restoration, and community engagement, we ensure the forest preserves will always be a source of recreation and relaxation.

Calumet Region Events

Events taking place in the Calumet region, including sites in Riverdale, South Holland, south Chicago, etc.

We will learn about the forest preserves and zoom in on Eggers Grove Forest Preserve, a gem of the East Side community. Then, we will learn about the history, benefits, and uses of elderberry, a local and native plant of the Calumet Region.
