ENCAUSTIC WAX PAINTING WORKSHOP: Saturday, June 13, 10am-3pm

Using wax as a painting medium goes back centuries. Learn about the history of this medium, & learn ways to use it in your own creations. Instructor: Jeanne Hougen Ages: Teens and adults ages 15 and up Prerequisite: both beginners as well as those with some experience with encaustic wax. Class Size: minimum of 3, maximum of 8 Materials fee: $30, to be paid to the instructor on the day of the workshopDescription: Using wax as a painting medium goes back centuries. Learn a bit about the history of this medium, and learn ways to use it in your own creations! In this workshop you will learn various techniques in Encaustic wax including collage, transferring your drawings onto wax, other mark-making methods, and various ways of adding texture and color. We will take a lunch break midway through the workshop where you can head outside to eat a lunch you have brought, or buy lunch from a nearby restaurant. You will leave having created 2-3 encaustic pieces of your own design, as well as a handful of encaustic greeting cards.

What to bring: All materials will be provided, however, you may want to embed items and pictures that mean something to you. Absorbent materials, such as paper (you can bring pictures printed on paper, or vellum), napkins, and tissue paper can be used. Small items and bits of nature can also be embedded into wax. Items bigger than beads would be difficult to use, unless they are of an absorbent nature, like dried grasses or leaves. You are also welcome to bring a lunch, and there are restaurants nearby as well.
