Evening Sail on the Hudson with Greene Land Trust
Join Greene Land Trust for an evening sail on the Schooner Apollonia! Explore the river relationships of the area's original inhabitants.
Sail back in time aboard Schooner Apollonia with Greene Land Trust!
This will be a 90 min voyage departing at 5:30 pm. The Schooner Apollonia will be sailing towards Brandow Point for a unique viewpoint of the Greene Land Trust property. Also aboard will be ethnoecologist Justin Wexler of Greene Land Trust and Wild Hudson Valley, who will be discussing the river relationships of the area's original inhabitants.
Justin is a scholar who has become well-versed in Hudson Valley indigenous culture, languages, and history through two decades of archival and ethnographic research. His programming helps people to understand and connect with the rich human and environmental history of the region, and he frequently works with members of displaced federally-recognized Lenape communities and hosts tribal members on visits to their homeland.
The ship will depart from the Athens City Dock at the Riverfront Park and will return to the same location for drop off. You will be exposed to the elements, so please cover up if you are sensitive to the sun and bring enough warm layers - it is often 10 degrees cooler out on the river, especially on a windy day. We advise using the bathroom ashore beforehand (there are porta potties in the park). You are welcome to bring food and drink but please limit it to a small bag, no coolers or large boxes.
