Justin Packshaw in Conversation with Anthony Champalimaud
Justin is an explorer in the truest sense of the word. A former British Army officer, including service in the Gulf War and with the United Nations, he later represented Britain in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race, summited Mount Everest, skied to the Geographic North Pole, crossed Antarctica, and retraced the journeys of explorers including Shackleton, Scott, and Mallory.
Today, as Chairman of JORO, Justin leads expeditions to some of the world’s most remote and extraordinary places. His approach is guided not by extravagance, but by curiosity, resilience, and a belief in the transformative power of exploration.
Yet it is perhaps less the scale of his accomplishments than the spirit behind them that makes him such compelling company. Thoughtful, generous, and endlessly curious, Justin brings a perspective shaped by endurance, adventure, and years spent at the edge of the known world.
This evening offers an opportunity to hear reflections on exploration, courage, leadership, and the enduring human desire to discover — while gathering, as Troutbeck so often hopes to do, interesting people around meaningful conversation.
