Explorer Hike: Chestnut Blooms Abuzzing
Midpen guided activities are led by trained volunteer docent naturalists. All are welcome.
Visit the historic Skyline Chestnuts property for a chance to learn how honey is produced. Led by Docent Naturalists Kate Bauer, Mary Brunkhorst, and Nick Yatsko, you’ll start at the Peters Creek Trail and take a moderately-paced hike along the Chestnut Trail to reach the orchard. If you’re in luck, the chestnut trees will be in bloom with the honeybees buzzing among the flowers. You’ll see beehive boxes on a walk through the orchard while learning how the trees, bees, and people work together to create sweet, delicious chestnut honey. Bring a snack or a lunch for a short break. Reservations are required and will be accepted on or after June 3 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) and close June 16 at 2:00 p.m.
