Join us for brook trout fishing, ATV riding, intro to archery, intro to turkey hunting, and more!

Maine Outdoor Programs welcomes youth, family, and friends for a day of adventure and learning. This Outdoor Skills Day is intended to introduce young folks and families to some of the great outdoors activities available here in Maine. Join us at the SAM Outdoors Center for some exciting activities such as fishing for brook trout, introduction to fly fishing, safe ATV riding, archery, riflery and safe firearms use, and more.


What to Expect:

Upon arrival participants will park at the front of the facility and check in at the gate for registration. From the gate, participants will be directed onto the property where signs will indicate where each station is located.

Choose the skills building sessions that most interest you! Sessions marked with ** begin at certain times, all other sessions are drop in, drop out at your leisure. Sessions are subject to change.

  • Archery / Intro to Bowhunting (ages 10+)**
  • Trout Fishing - Spincasting
  • Intro to Trapping and Maine Wildlife
  • ATV Riding Course (ages 10-14)**
  • Fly Fishing (ages 6+)**
  • Rifle Range - Safe Firearms Handling (ages 10+)**
  • Shotgun Range-Sporting Clays (ages 10+)**
  • Turkey Hunting Skills-Calling and Hunting Tactics (Sponsored by National Wild Turkey Federation)

Other activities may be included!

**These sessions include a safety portion or longer introduction and will rotate every hour. In the morning, these sessions will begin on the hour at 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00. Lunch will take place 12-12:30. Afternoon sessions will take place at 12:30 and 1:30.


Pack a lunch, hydration and don't forget the sunscreen! Our experienced instructors will provide support and encouragement, making the outdoors accessible and enjoyable for all. This event fosters a sense of community and connection, embracing learning in a safe and respectful atmosphere. Come discover the adventure of the Maine outdoors and create lasting memories while building confidence in outdoor skills for your next adventure.


Please Note - Age Minimums: 6+ for the fishing stations and 10+ for ATV, Firearms, & Archery stations. *Parents or guardians are required to stay and supervise minor
