Foraging Hike

Foraging Hike

Friends of the Franc PreserveBethel, CT
Overview

Frolic with new friends and seek mushrooms in the woods!

Take a hike with an expert on mushrooms and learn to identify native mushrooms! Mushrooms can be difficult to positively ID, but our hike leader has 10 years experience on identifying native mushrooms.

This will be less a hike and more a stop every few feet to look at plants, mushrooms, and rocks. It will, however, be between 1-2 miles, depending on exact route taken, so may be too long for small children. If you're unsure if the walk is too long, consider visiting for a casual family walk before the date!

We will probably find some early summer mushrooms and early berries.

There are a few benches along the route, but they are unevenly spaced. Please make sure to wear sturdy shoes! Most of the walk will be in forest. Tick repellant is suggested. Make sure to carry water with you.

Dogs ON LEASH are welcome on the hike. Please only brings dogs that are okay with strangers and other dogs.

Use 160 Plumtrees RD in GPS to find the parking area. There will be a sign.

WEATHER DELAY: Light rain or mist will not cancel the hike. Mushrooms love damp! If we have heavy rain or other unsafe trail conditions, we will make sure to post a cancellation that morning.

YOU WILL BE ASKED TO SIGN A LIABILITY RELEASE WHEN YOU ARRIVE. While you will be being guided by an expert, if you choose to take things home and eat them, the risk is yours.
