Freshkills Docent Orientation

At 2,200 acres, Freshkills Park will be almost three times the size of Central Park and the largest park developed in New York City in over 100 years. Free tours offer insights into ongoing development and unmatched views, and recreational programs provide opportunities to experience the hills and waterways before the park officially opens.

Volunteer Events

Interested in taking part in the largest NYC Parks project in over 100 years? Join Freshkills at the launching of our Freshkills Docent Program! To begin, we'll be giving an introduction to our park and its' history, an overview on offered programming, and how docents will help us fully activate the park through hands on service projects. Light refreshments and a guided site tour will follow. Your RSVP admits 1 car. Please meet Freshkills staff in the parking lot of North Park Phase One.Can't make it? You can still help by promoting our volunteer projects with your friends and neighbors. Students can receive credit for community service hours. We will also be adding more volunteer opportunities as the season continues.
