Guardians of Our Planet, Explorers of the Sky
Explore our connected planet with We Are Guardians and The Heart of the Summer Scorpion
Join us at the Blake Planetarium for an inspiring program that explores the connections that link life on Earth and the stars that fill our summer skies.
Our feature presentation, We Are Guardians, is a visually stunning fulldome experience that reveals how Earth's ecosystems are interconnected in ways both visible and hidden. Journey into forests, oceans, wetlands, and other ecosystems as you discover how every living thing plays a role in maintaining the health of our planet. Through breathtaking animation and creative storytelling, audiences will learn how scientists use satellites and other technologies to monitor environmental changes, track climate patterns, and better understand the relationship between human activities and the natural world.
From local ecosystems to global climate systems, We Are Guardians demonstrates that we are all connected. The show highlights how scientific research helps us understand these connections and explores how individuals and communities can work together to protect our shared home for future generations.
Following the feature, guests will explore the early summer night sky and learn about one of the season's most recognizable constellations: Scorpius, the Scorpion. We'll focus on the bright star Antares, often called the "Heart of the Scorpion," and discover how to locate this striking constellation in the evening sky. Participants will also learn how to use a simple partial-sky star map, providing an easy way to continue their stargazing adventures throughout the summer.
This engaging program combines Earth science, environmental stewardship, and astronomy in a way that will inspire audiences of all ages.
