Habitat Restoration Volunteer Work Day at the EEC

Containing almost 30,000 acres of estuarine habitat, uplands, open water, mudflats, salt ponds, and salt marshes, including much of southern San Francisco Bay, Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge provides habitat for many wildlife.  Its purpose is to protect wildlife habitat for endangered species and migratory birds, and to offer opportunities for nature study. The Visitor Center and Nature Store in Fremont, is open on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM.Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refugeis part of the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Complex and is administered by the US Fish & Wildlife Service. TheSan Francisco Bay Wildlife Societyis a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) Friends group supporting the education, interpretation, and research activities of San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuges.

Volunteer Work Days at the Refuge

Volunteer events to do trail maintenance, habitat restoration, cleanups, and more at the Don Edwards SF Bay National Wildlife Refuge!

Help us with maintain and improve the habitat and trails at the Environmental Education Center at the Don Edwards SF Bay NWR! Activities may include mulching weed-prone areas, removing invasive plants, picking up litter, maintaining trails, or spreading native seeds to prepare for spring! All gloves and tools will be provided, so just make sure to dress comfortably and bring a can-do attitude.Please register and plan to arrive promptly at 9:20am to allow time for check-in before we get started.Please note, volunteers under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.Other Considerations:<ul><li>We expect the weather to be windy and variable, so we encourage everyone to wear comfortable clothing, long pants, warm layers, and sturdy closed-toe shoes - all that you don't mind getting a little dirty!</li><li>Restrooms will be available on-site in the form of an ADA-compliant portable toilet and hand-washing station.</li><li>Reusable water bottles are a huge plus and are a great step to reducing plastic pollution.
