Join us on the Haight-Ashbury Singing Tour in which we tell the story of the Summer of Love and its music while singing some of its songs.
Join the Haight-Ashbury Singing Tour!
This is a special singing version of the Haight Tour I've been leading since 2015. I'll recount the events that led to the 1967 Summer of Love, focusing on the music scene and bands such as Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother & The Holding Company and The Grateful Dead. We'll sing five of the neighborhood's most cherished songs including "Get Together," "White Rabbit," "Somebody to Love," "Me and Bobby McGee," and "Ripple." I will bring lyric sheets for all, and we will play and sing with the recording. Not everyone who comes is required to sing. But I'd encourage you not to worry about how well you sing -- it's the fact that we're all singing together that makes these tours fun.
Walking around the neighborhood singing these songs helps evoke the magical spirit of the 1960s, when the San Francisco Sound was enjoyed by listeners the world over.
While this tour is free, I'm encouraging participants to donate to SF City Guides. I'll be bringing a golden envelope for cash donations. It's also possible to donate online here.
