The gorgeous Fuchsia and Datura come into full bloom in Summer and are the subjects of our next 2-class series.

Our first lesson 6/21, is an ancient lantern-like flower, Fuchsia that has been around 23 million years! The plants are safe for kids and pets and are completely edible. The Native Americans historically made rich black dye for wool from the roots of the plant. With it's stretched out petals resembling wind swept skirts, the Fuchsia's symbolism includes; confiding love, trust or protection when given to a woman and it's "potions" were even thought to miraculously conjure up fairies and humans.

The subtly fragrant and nocturnal Datura or "moon trumpet" is the second subject we will dive into 6/28. The natural narcotic properties of this beautiful pendulous flower have been used in ancient rituals for centuries as well as medicinally for various conditions such as an airway opener for asthma sufferers and as an antispasmodic. It even has earned the name, "zombie-cucumber" in Caribbean folklore for it's hallucinogenic properties used for communicating with spirits.

We will cover the basics of brush technique, ink and color application on rice paper and learn how to create two lovely floral compositions. These classes also include optional weekly homework critiques to provide private customized learning and lesson integration.

***If you are just starting your journey with Brush Painting, this step-by-step class series will be taught at a gentle pace with plenty of time to practice the various strokes. Leigha will arrive 30 minutes before the first class begins on 6/21 for brand new painters to introduce them to brush holding, preparing and loading with ink so, class time can be spent exploring our flowers.***
