Hybrid Design Compiles Curious Obsessions and 25 Years of Creative Work with Debut Book, Hybrid: Curiosity in All Things

Published by Victionary, Hybrid: Curiosity in All Things compiles 20+ years of San Francisco studio Hybrid Design's curious obsessions.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - January 13th, 2025: For nearly 25 years, multidisciplinary San Francisco studio Hybrid Design has translated eclectic interests and deep curiosity into impactful design for clients like Nike, The North Face, Pinterest, Sonos, and YouTube. Now, the studio has collected two decades of that work and philosophy in its first book, Hybrid: Curiosity in All Things, published by Victionary. The book delivers thoughtful, razor-sharp essays about the nature of their creations and processes, driven by the conviction that seemingly disparate interests are essential to fulfilling work.

Hybrid: Curiosity in All Things is now available for purchase at Victionary and Gingko Press. The book comes in two color ways with colorful marbling on the textblock—randomly assigned when ordered from Gingko—in the spirit of curiosity and serendipity.

Across nearly 650 pages, featuring real project examples and a collection of insightful essays from the Hybrid Design team, the studio charts how a broad and eclectic range of interests, hobbies, and experiences can be translated into powerful design work across any subject or discipline. What's more, they distill the idea that in design, it’s essential to connect with the world around you. Design is a powerful synthesis that solves a creative problem within the context of culture; it doesn't exist in a vacuum, so creating solutions within the context of culture is essential.

"Every obsession, every collection, and every side quest we've ever taken has led to the release of this book. We're thrilled to share 20+ years of nerdy inspiration and craft-filled design that has fueled the studio from the start," says Dora Drimalas, Founder and Executive Creative Director at Hybrid Design

"The book is a testament to the idea that being curious keeps the work and the process fresh and engaging," she adds. "The secret is that staying endlessly curious is not only beneficial to the designer, but that it translates to the end user and pushes design and creativity forward."

"Curiosity begins as kindling. The essays in this book show how it becomes the fire that drives design," says Caleb Kozlowski, Creative Director at Hybrid. "These essays follow curiosity's strange mutations, from idle wonderings and sideways glances into the unlikely engine that powers our own work."

About Hybrid Design:

Hybrid Design is a collection of problem solvers, artists, craftspeople, and thinkers who thrive on the unexpected. Led by Dora Drimalas, Hybrid brings craft and curiosity to brands across business and culture, partnering with a variety of clients to create work that makes a lasting impact.

With an award-winning portfolio that includes Nike, Pinterest, Hypebeast, Sonos, lululemon, Amazon, and many more, Hybrid Design embraces intersections—where genres, industries, materials, and ideas collide, remix, and evolve. Rejecting the oversimplification of design, they believe the best ideas emerge from deep curiosity, thoughtful execution, and an obsession with craft. Typography, materials, experiences, every detail matters. At Hybrid, "weird" is high praise, and meaningful design is about shaping brands that resonate, endure, and connect.
