Introduction to Hays Woods Trails
Interested in exploring Pittsburgh's newest park but unsure where to start? Come join the Park Rangers on these themed guided hikes!
About Hays: Hays Woods consists of 626 acres of undeveloped forest, meadows, creek glens, and bluffs overlooking the Monongahela. The low traffic trails are great for bird watching, hiking, and mountain biking. Several overlooks provide views as far as Oakland and Homewood.
About the hikes: Mileage will range from 1.5 to 3.0 miles long depending on hiking conditions. Aproximately half of each hike will be on single track trails. Expect around 250 feet elevation change for these routes

April- Navigation and Overlooks
May- Wildlife Watching (binoculars provided)
June- Plant ID and Foraging
NOTE: During our foraging hike we will not be harvesting any plants. This hike will serve as an introduction to common wild edibles that grow in southwestern PA, and where to safe a sustainably harvest them.
When: Hikes will take place first Fridays (9-11AM) and third Thursdays (6-7:30PM), April through June.
Where: Hikes start at the Agnew Trailhead Parking Lot. The closest residential address is: 1015 Agnew Road, Pittsburgh PA 15227 The lot is at the end of Agnew Road.
What to bring: Water and sunscreen are a great start. Long pants, closed toed shoes, and bugspray are recommended since some trails are narrow and brushy. Dogs are welcome but must stay on leash.
