Join Inform Your Community for this free, fun, virtual discussion event on 4/28/22, Thursday, 6:30pm-7:30pm. Enjoy listening to Invisible Disability experts and professionals sharing invaluable insights and humorous anecdotes about this consequential topic. A panel of experts with diverse professional and personal backgrounds will share their knowledge, experience, and perspectives about invisible disabilities. Join Inform Your Community for this lively and important discussion. Panelists will talk about current issues and take questions from the audience. A recording of the event will be sent to all those who have registered.Inform Your Community welcomes four speakers to discuss Invisible Disability at our upcoming event THIS Thursday.Wendiann Alfieri is an author who is becoming a strong advocate for mental health issues. She has been dealing with issues from eating disorders to schizophrenia for years and hopes to shout and speak for the many that can’t, especially those suffering wrongdoing in mental health facilities. She has written two books and has a creative writing website www.wendiannsworld.com.Laura M. Laria is a designer, author and Credentialed Addictions and Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC 2) in the New York Metro Area. In addition to her professional experience as an Addictions Counselor, she is a NYS Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA), Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC), and NYS Peer Specialist (NYSPS). Ms. Laria is also an Instructor/Mentor/Curriculum Development for Mentoring 4 Impact for IMPACTability and was one of Image Impact International’s presenters at CUNY’s Annual Accessibility Conference Panel in 2020. Ms. Laria has been living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) for over 46 years and is legally blind. After experiencing a lifesaving operation 15 years ago, she decided to transition her life, career and profession into a more purposeful journey, Addiction therapy. She has been a guest panelist at Hunter College’s Disability in Education Conference and the VISIONS/Lighthouse Dress for Success Youth Employment. She has presented at Camp Destiny, speaking to children with Type 1 diabetes and on DIVABETIC Blog Radio. She wrote and published “The Well-Armed Diabetic” an emergency preparedness survival list and other related articles in diabetes management publications. Ms. Laria’s life, career and profession continues to focus on the importance of diversity, disability, public/community outreach, and service which she believes are essential to enriching culture, health, and the lives of all people, equally. Jacob Levy is a special educator, career coach and a wears a few creative 🎩s. He also grew up with a learning disability since birth due to a brain hemorrhage. He has struggled with his memory retrieval; yet, through his love of music, he figured out a way to use short melodies to remember information. He now is working to help others with disabilities use music as a memory tool, as well as help jobseekers find opportunities and navigate their career path. As a career coach, he teaches jobseekers of all abilities how to identify opportunities OUTSIDE of their network by utilizing the LinkedIn algorithm, as well as content creation based on one’s subject matter expertise and targeting/adding value to decision makers behind any job in the world. Erica Miller, PhD. is a licensed psychologist who provides comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations as well as evidenced-based treatment for youth and young adults. She specializes in school refusal, anxiety, depression, learning, and developmental disabilities. Throughout her career, Dr. Miller has focused on helping youth and their families develop positive experiences with school and learning, and to advocate for students’ academic and socio-emotional needs. Having provided clinical care in schools and outpatient settings, she understands how to navigate the educational system in order for students to experience success and growth and to present findings so parents and teachers can truly understand a child’s behavior. Dr. Miller is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University where she supervises graduate students in School Psychology and has taught courses in psychological and reading assessment. Beyond her professional roles, Dr. Miller resides in Brooklyn with her spouse, newborn and lively toddler as they too navigate the challenges of COVID-19.
