Learn to Paint: Peaceful Reflections in Watercolor
Join artist Amanda McIntyre as she teaches the watercolor techniques needed to paint a tranquil lakeside scene filled with light, color, and reflection.
In this class, Amanda will walk you step-by-step through her process, focusing on one of watercolors most useful techniques -- graduated washes. She'll also demonstrate how to use color, water, and brushwork to create depth, atmosphere, and stunning reflections on the water.
You’ll work on a final piece while also using a second sheet of paper to practice techniques and experiment along the way.
Whether you're brand new to watercolor or have been painting for years, this class offers a wonderful opportunity to slow down, learn new techniques, and create a peaceful nature-inspired painting in a supportive environment. We'll begin by practicing a few foundational washes before moving on to the final piece, giving everyone a chance to build confidence and get comfortable with the materials.
No previous watercolor experience is necessary.

Please Bring the Following Art Supplies
Watercolor Paints
Amanda will be using tubes of Ultramarine Blue, Permanent Rose, and Cadmium Yellow. If you'd like to follow along with the same colors, feel free to bring those paints. Otherwise, any watercolor set will work—from a basic Crayola watercolor set to professional-grade paints such as Winsor & Newton.
Brushes
- Round watercolor brush, size 12
- Thin liner (rigger) brush for details
Paper
Amanda loves Arches but Fabriano works great too. The higher the cotton content the better the paper. Amanda buys 9x12 paper and cuts it down to 5x7 for this painting. Please bring a few sheets of paper, we will be practicing washes before moving to the final piece.
- 140 lb cold press watercolor paper
