This program series is a partnership between Essex Heritage and Salem Maritime National Historical Park and highlights the unique role of Essex County communities during the American Revolution.

Lectures & Programs

Essex Heritage offers a wide variety of lectures and programs for all ages to engage residents, and visitors with the cultural, historical, and natural resources of the Heritage Area.

An opening reception for the National Park Service exhibit, "Leslie’s Retreat: Salem on the Brink of Revolution" will be held on Friday, February 21 at 5 pm. Light refreshments will be provided to be followed by a lecture by exhibit curator Dr. Emily Murphy at 6:30 pm in the Salem Armory Auditorium. This exhibit will explore why Crown soldiers under Lt. Col. Alexander Leslie came to Salem on February 26, 1775, who were the major players in the event, and how this event has been remembered and celebrated in Salem in the last 250 years.
