Paddle the Day Away with Visit Montgomery County
ABOUT
Celebrate summer on the Mohawk River during the 2026 Montgomery County Kayak-a-Thon, part of the America 250 commemoration. We encourage you to wear red, white, and blue to celebrate this anniversary. Wear fun hats, face paint, or whatever will get you into the spirit.
Let’s see a wave of red, white, and blue along the Mohawk!
Kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddle boards are invited to launch from Riverfront Park in Canajoharie and paddle east to the Village of Fonda. Participants will travel approximately 13 miles along the Mohawk River, passing through Mohawk River Lock E13 before concluding at Fonda Park.
Following the lock, paddlers will have the option to take a brief stop at the Mohawk Valley Welcome Center, a Taste NY location. Free water and snacks will be provided. Vending machines with more options will be available inside, along with restrooms and regional information.
Stopping is optional; however, participants who choose to stop are asked to limit their visit to 30 minutes to help maintain the event schedule and spacing between paddlers.
