MWBA June Stewardship Day on Gabrielino Trail
Join us for a day of ride in, hike in, or run in stewardship on the Gabrielino Trail
Join the MWBA volunteer team for a fun day of riding, learning, and trail stewardship!
MWBA is working on tread and brushing projects on the Gabrielino Trail for this month's public stewardship day. The section of Gab we're working on is up below the USFS debris dam. Our goal is to tune up the trail corridor near Gould Mesa campground. Absolutely no trail work experience is required to join us for this event!
Park in the JPL East Lot at 8am for sign in and a safety briefing. We will head up the trail in groups, regrouping along the way as we climb up to the work site. The route to our worksite follows the Gabrielino Trail approximately 4 miles. There are many water crossings (your feet will get wet!) and while the canyon is shaded and the climb is mostly gentle, please factor into your preparation that you will be hiking/biking/running ~4 miles in, doing trailwork, then hiking/biking/running ~4 miles back out. If you are not already familiar with the trail and Arroyo Seco/JPL area, please take some time to review a map.
As always, no trail work experience is necessary to join us on trail! We will provide the tools and guidance for a fun, safe, and productive day in the forest.
Please bring the following in preparation for a day out on the trail:
- An off-road bicycle in good mechanical condition to get you to the worksite along the Gabrielino trail. (Not required, but fun! Many of our volunteers hike or run up the Gab.)
- Trail work clothing: long sleeve shirt, long pants, sturdy shoes, eye protection are required. Feel free to change at the worksite after our ride in.
- A hydration pack or backpack able to carry provided lunch, water and snacks while working on the trail.
- Water and snacks to keep you feeling good for 5-6 hours in the sun
