Native Bee Garden Tour: Bernal Cut Garden Walk + Pollinator Bioblitz

Native Bee Garden Tour: Bernal Cut Garden Walk + Pollinator Bioblitz

Glen Park Branch LibrarySan Francisco, CA
Overview

Explore the Bernal Cut, a community-powered native plant garden in San Francisco, and join a guided pollinator walk, Bee Bingo, and BioBlitz

Join Planet Bee Foundation and the California Native Plant Society Yerba Buena Chapter for the second stop in our Native Bee Garden Tour Series, featuring a guided exploration of the Bernal Cut, a unique, community-driven native plant habitat in San Francisco.

Tucked between neighborhoods, the Bernal Cut is a small but powerful example of urban ecological restoration. Stewarded by dedicated volunteers from the California Native Plant Society, this site has been thoughtfully cultivated with climate-appropriate native plants that provide essential forage and habitat for a diverse range of native bee species and other pollinators.

We’ll meet at the Glen Park Library. Our leads will offer a brief introduction to native pollinators, the importance of urban biodiversity, and how community-led efforts like Bernal Cut contribute to climate resilience. From there, we’ll take a guided walk through the garden to observe pollinators in action and learn how native plants support healthy ecosystems.

This interactive event also connects to our broader tour experience:

  • Bee Bingo: Continue your Bee Bingo journey by completing activities across tour stops for a chance to win a prize at the end of the series
  • Community Science Bioblitz: Use iNaturalist to document bees and other pollinators during our guided observation activity. Participants contributing observations during the bioblitz period will be eligible for prizes
  • Learn to identify native plants and understand their role in supporting pollinator diversity

Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, student, or curious community member, this experience offers a chance to see how small urban spaces can make a big ecological impact.
