New to Portland Ride: Intro to Gravel

Are you new to town, or new to gravel biking? Want to explore one of the best off-road paths in the city? Then join our New to Portland Intro to Gravel ride on Tuesday, August 18 from 5-8 p.m.!

The ride: We will gather at Cyclepath PDX (2714 NW Thurman St) at 5:00 p.m. and head out promptly at 5:30 p.m. Cyclepath PDX will provide a shuttle to the top of the Leif Erikson trail. The group will ride back to the shop on Thurman Street along Leif Erikson trail. Leif Erikson is a double-track gravel roadbed open to bikes but not cars. The total length of the ride will be 11.5 miles.

Who this is for: Everyone! The ride is designed with beginners in mind, so no off-road experience is necessary. This is a great place to see what the off-road hype is all about and make some friends all while enjoying a pleasant, light ride.

The gear: Please come prepared with an off-road ready bike in safe, working condition. This means the tires are a little wider (we recommend a minimum of 32mm wide), ideally you've got some gears, and suspension (shocks) are useful but not required. Be sure to bring a helmet, water bottle, snacks, fanny pack or bike bag, and weather-specific clothing that can get sweaty.

The plan: We will gather at Cyclepath West bike shop at 5 p.m. and head out on the shuttle by 5:30 p.m. Afterwards, join us for a hang session including light snacks and good company.

RSVP: This event is free but space is limited. Please promptly cancel if it turns out that you cannot attend so we can make sure someone else can grab your spot.

This event is a partnership between the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT), Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA), and Cyclepath PDX.
