Join the High Desert Chapter in monitoring for Pumice Grape-fern!
Join the High Desert Chapter of Native Plant Society of Oregon on Saturday July 18 to visit the Newberry National Volcanic Monument and perform a census of the Pumice Grape-fern (Botrychium pumicola). This member of the fern family is on the rare list for the State of Oregon and is being monitored by the Deschutes National Forest. We will hike under a mile on a good trail with under 1000 feet elevation gain. We will carpool at 9AM at a pre-determined spot. Roads are ok for a Subaru or equivalent. Return to Bend by 4PM. Hiker numbers will be limited to avoid trampling. Bring a lunch and liquids. Not much shade. Hiking boots recommended. No pets. Trip leader with be Dr. Stu Garrett.
