NHM Discussions are free online classes uniting scholars and enthusiasts for conversations on Greek history, culture, and more. Topics span mythology, art, philosophy, and diaspora. NHM Discussions is generously sponsored by the Hellenic Foundation.

<p>Join us for an accessible and wide-ranging journey through the history of the Greek language, from antiquity to the present day. This talk traces Greek’s extraordinary continuity across more than three millennia, while also highlighting moments of rupture, reform, and debate. We will examine how politics, religion, empire, and nationalism shaped Greek’s evolution, including the famous “language question” between Demotic and Katharevousa. By placing Greek in its social and historical contexts, this discussion reveals how language is never just a tool of communication, but a battleground for identity, authority, and cultural memory.</p>
