<h2>Obstetric Life Support / Maternal Cardiac Resuscitation</h2>

<h3>DESCRIPTION</h3>This is an ongoing high fidelity simulation program, in place since 2007, involving multidisciplinary teams in maternal cardiac arrest simulations at Stanford Medicine Children's Health.The goals of the course are focused in three areas:<ol><li>Technical performance of the L&amp;D team in the first 5 minutes of the resuscitation, from arrest to Resuscitative Cesarean Delivery</li><li> Immediate post ROSC stabilization of the mother in the delivery room and Obstetric OR with 	consideration of the differential diagnosis, employing simulated POCUS (Cardiac US).</li><li>Effective communication of teams within the scenarios as well as outside of the Delivery suite to 	access advanced resources for the care of arrested mothers (ECMO, IR, RT, Cath lab)</li></ol>In this course, nurses take the cognitive learning obtained in doing ALS computer modules and apply them in 3 high fidelity simulations of maternal cardiac arrest.

<h3>OBJECTIVES</h3>Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:<ul><li>Perform LUD until MD can take over</li><li>Become confident/efficient in connecting all leads and operating Zoll Defibrillator</li><li>Become confident/efficient in assembling the EPI BristoJet and delivery of med</li><li>Fulfill role of recorder by following events on timer and making accurate notations</li><li>Fulfill the role of checklist reader by following algorithm and prepping transitions</li><li>Learn to assist MD for an advanced airway when Anesthesiology team is task saturated</li><li>Meet the needs of the OB team in preparation for Resuscitative Delivery</li><li>Learn about the post ROSC care of Maternal Arrest patients so that you can facilitate communication to teams outside the unit (SHC ECMO, SCH Resp Therapy)</li></ul>

<h3>CONTINUING EDUCATION</h3>Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry is accredited as provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).<ul><li>Number of ANCC Contact Hours: 3.5 hours</li></ul>Nurses:<ul><li>While CA BRN credits are accepted for your RN license renewal, ANCC credits may only apply to specific certifications. To ensure your credits are valid, please verify with your state board or accrediting body whether they accept ANCC-approved continuing education.</li></ul>Other Medical Professionals:<ul><li>Contact your professional board to determine if they accept continuing education (CE) credits approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).</li></ul>Earning CE Credits<ul><li>To be eligible for Continuing Education (CE) credits, participants are required to attend the entire course or event and complete the course evaluation. Partial credit cannot be granted for late arrivals or early departures.</li></ul>Certificate Issuance and Record Keeping<ul><li>CE certificates will be distributed within 30 days of course completion. Participants are responsible for maintaining their personal records of accrued CE documentation. Certificates must be retained for four years following the course date and are valid for a single use toward registered nurse license renewal.</li></ul>

<h3>CANCELLATION and REFUND</h3><ul><li>FULL REFUND for cancellations at least 2 weeks prior to course date.</li><li>PARTIAL REFUND for cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to course date. A $35 cancellation fee will be deducted from the total amount you have paid.</li><li>NO REFUND for cancellations less than 5 days prior to course date.</li><li>For SCH Employees: NO SHOWS or cancellations on the day of class are considered unexcused absences. Managers will be notified. A medical note may be required in the event of illness or medical emergencies.</li><li>Cancellation by CPEI: Schedules, venues and details are subject to change and cancellation. Registered participants will be provided with as much advance notice as possible if this should occur.
