Old-Growth Forest Features Field Trip & Volunteer Training - Livingston, MT
A community hike at Grotto Falls Trail to learn more about old-growth forest characteristics.
Unbeknownst to most, the forest along the Grotto Falls & Hyalite Lake trails is “old-growth” subalpine forest. This is an easy trail that slopes gradually uphill and we will stop often to admire the features of the forest.
Please meet at the Grotto Falls trailhead above Hyalite Reservoir. We walk slowly for up to 2 miles, exploring old-growth forest features along the trail and learning the best ways to document these features for OGFN. Handouts will be provided. Bring a notebook and something to write with, a water bottle, and dress for the weather. Restrooms are available at the trailhead.
