Opening Reception: The Path to Nowhere - Errol Ortiz & Stanley Dean Edwards

Oliva Gallery presents The Path to Nowhere, a two-person exhibition featuring Errol Ortiz and Stanley Dean Edwards.

Errol Ortiz, a Chicago-based Imagist painter, builds symbol-rich works shaped by current events, social movements, pattern, humor, and unease. His images draw from comic books, puzzles, pop culture, and the charged visual language of Chicago Imagism, creating paintings that feel immediate, strange, and socially alert.

Stanley Dean Edwards approaches painting through structure, color, and restraint. His geometric abstractions are built through hard divisions, repeated forms, and calibrated color relationships that create tension within order. Where Ortiz lets images slip, scatter, and echo, Edwards locks forms into pressure and precision.

Together, their work creates a charged exchange between image and structure, looseness and control, social commentary and abstraction. The Path to Nowhere places these two artistic approaches in direct conversation, creating a space that feels unsettled, exacting, and unexpectedly cohesive.

On opening night, Oliva Gallery will also screen a short documentary on Errol Ortiz by On The Real Film in collaboration with Pentimenti Productions. The film premieres at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago on May 26 as part of a series on Chicago artists, and this reception offers a more intimate opportunity to view the film and meet the artist.
