Perfect for parents and children looking for a creative activity to share, or for solo participants eager to learn new pastry skills in a welcoming environment.

In this interactive class, you will start with a pre-assembled, crumb-coated cake that is ready for your creative touch. Under the step-by-step guidance of a professional pastry chef Dawn, you will learn the essential techniques to apply a smooth, flawless final coat of buttercream.

Once your canvas is prepped, the real fun begins as we dive into the colorful world of fondant! You will learn how to sculpt, shape, and apply delightful fondant embellishments to bring your edible birdhouse to life. From crafting a textured roof and a welcoming little door to adding charming details like flowers and vines, you will have the freedom to customize your creation.

Whether you are a complete beginner or have some decorating experience, this class is designed to be engaging, educational, and most importantly, delicious. You will leave with a beautiful, fully decorated mini birdhouse cake to show off and enjoy with your family and friends.

All tools are provided for use during class and each team will receive a cake box to take their cake home.

Meet Your Instructor:

Dawn Alston of Ravy Cakes, a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native, grew up in Northern Virginia where she started baking at the age of six. Dawn holds an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts and has competed in many local baking events and in 2018 she competed on Food Network’s Wedding Cake Championship. All The Details:

• Age Level: 7+ with a parent/adult
• Skill Level: Beginner
• Each ticket includes 1 adult and 1 child. If you wish to bring more than 1 child to the class, there will be an additional charge of $100. Your 2nd child will receive their own cake so you will go home with 2 cakes. Please contact Fran's directly to purchase your ticket to ensure we can accommodate an additional child.
• All supplies and tools are provided for use during class.
• We will provide a box for each team to take your cake home in
• The class may be a little messy so we recommend bringing an apron.
• If you have long hair, you may want to tie it back.
• Class requires a minimum of 2 teams and there is a maximum of 5 teams. In the event of insufficient enrollment, you will receive a full refund.
• Class will run approximately 2.5 hours. Please note that the class is hands-on and may run over or under schedule.

Cancellation Policy:

Changes and cancellations...we know life happens so we try our best to be flexible while being fair to our instructors who purchase supplies and bake for each student. Full refunds or credits are available for cancellations made at least 5 days prior to the class. If you need to cancel after 5 days but at least 48 hours in advance, we can offer you a credit for a future class. We cannot offer any credits for cancellations within 48 hours of the scheduled class.
