<p>This workshop is designed for therapists just getting started in play therapy as well as those therapists seeking to refresh their play therapy awareness, understanding, and application. This workshop will cover a basic history and theoretical concepts specific to both directive and non-directive play therapy. Participants will be introduced to toys and materials needed to set up a play therapy room. Participants will learn play therapy interventions such as restating content, reflecting feelings, metacommunication, limit setting, and therapeutic metaphors. Participants will learn common treatment phases for play therapy and practice creating goals, objectives, and interventions according to the phase of treatment. This workshop will engage participants in practicing interventions and creating sample progress notes based on role play. </p>

<h2>Workshop Objectives:</h2><h3><em>After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:</em></h3><p><strong>Friday-D﻿ay 1:</strong></p><ol><li>Discuss history of play therapy</li><li>Discuss benefits and risks of play therapy </li><li>Discuss theoretical concepts specific to both directive and nondirective play therapy</li><li>Compare common treatment phases between play therapy modalities</li><li>Explore materials needed to set up a play therapy room</li><li>Practice basic play therapy interventions such as tracking, restating content and reflecting feelings</li></ol><p><strong>S﻿aturday-Day2:</strong></p><ol><li>Explore play therapy techniques for individual, family, and group settings</li><li>Practice play therapy interventions such as metacommunication, limit setting, and therapeutic metaphors.</li><li>Discuss limits and boundary setting in sessions</li><li>Identify core steps to creating a play therapy intervention.</li><li>Create and practice unique play therapy interventions.</li><li>Explore play therapy techniques for individual, family, and group settings</li><li>Create treatment goals, objectives, interventions, and session documentation based on phases of treatment</li></ol><h2>W﻿orkshop Schedule:</h2><h3>F﻿riday &amp; Saturday</h3><ul><li>9﻿:00-10:30 Instruction Time</li><li>1﻿0:30-10:45 Break</li><li>1﻿0:45-12:00 Instruction Time</li><li>1﻿2:00-1:00 Lunch Break (on your own, fridge space is available)</li><li>1﻿:00-2:30 Instruction Time</li><li>2﻿:30-2:45 Break</li><li>2﻿:45-4:00 Instruction Time</li></ul><p></p>
