A short hike around Hemlock Lake to search for tadpoles and other aquatic life.
So much local wildlife is visible at Hemlock Lake! At the lake beach we will look for tadpoles and frogs, learning how life starts for amphibians. While hiking around the lake we will look for what's blooming and keep an eye out for the birds that make this lake their home. Throughout the program we will gather lake water to search for critters that make the water their home and participants will learn how to do a pond study at their local body of water.
This program is designed for ages 3-5, but all ages are welcome. The hike is rated moderate due to uneven terrain and is about .6 mile round trip. Sturdy, mud-resistant or waterproof shoes are recommended. Please avoid using sunscreen or bug repellant as it harms amphibians. Instead wear hats and long sleeves. Steady rain and other inclement weather will cancel.
Space is limited and advance registration is REQUIRED due to parking restrictions.
