Preserve Stewards: Tree Restoration Workday

Preserve Stewards: Tree Restoration Workday

Forestview Natural AreaMidland, MI
Overview

Lend a hand at Forestview Natural Area to restore native habitat by removing invasive species and monitoring tree plantings!

What we’ll be doing:

Volunteers will help us to maintain tree plantings and native habitat at this nature preserve. Participants will help to protect existing tree plantings by surveying tree survivorship rates while also maintaining and re-assembling tree protection tubing and cages. Volunteers may also help to control nearby invasive species such as as autumn olive and barberry using loppers and handsaws. LFC staff and partners will apply treamtent to prevent further growth.

Those under 15 must have a parent present or a chaperone. This event is recommended for ages 10 and up.

What to bring:

Gloves, water, safety glasses, and loppers and/or handsaws. We will be working outside, so please dress accordingly for the event and weather. Closed toed shoes are required and long pants are recommended. Little Forks Conservancy will provide trail tools and safety glasses to those who need them.

Location, Directions, and Time:

Forestview Natural Area is located on Tittabawassee River Road, off of N Saginaw Road at Tittabawassee River Road, Midland MI. Tittabawassee River Road is about 2 miles down the road from Midland Brewing Company, on the left. Once on Tittabawassee River Road from Saginaw, the preserve's parking lot will be located less than a quarter mile down the road - on the right-hand side. Once all volunteers have arrived, we will carpool to a different part of the preserve that is closer to the project area.
