PSNY LGBTQIA+ Free Verse Workshop: Pervert Poetics

PSNY LGBTQIA+ Free Verse Workshop: Pervert Poetics

Online event
Overview

Join us at June 2026's Free Verse Virtual Workshop for LGBTQIA+ Creatives with Birch Wiley!

A free generative virtual workshop for LGBTQIA+ Creatives with poet Birch Wiley!

Expressions of queer reality, especially the realities of queer bodies and desires, are increasingly censored in U.S. culture. This workshop will explore what makes a work “deviant,” “obscene,” or “perverted,” and question our culture’s fear of these works. Reading poets like Allen Ginsberg and Eileen Myles, participants will get the chance to discuss the artistic value of so-called “obscene” works by queer writers. During the generative writing portion of the workshop, poets will be encouraged to push the boundaries of what they believe a poem can say.

About the instructor: Birch Wiley is a transsexual poet living in New York. Their work can be found in Pleiades, Voicemail Poems, and Querencia Quarterly, among others. Their debut collection, Mythweaver, is out now from New Words {press}. You can learn more about them at birchwiley.com.
